And the award goes to…Gabriel Börner and his incisional hernia prevention research! Gabriel won Hans Jeekel Research Award at EHS in Manchester 2022.

Our Gabriel Börner won Hans Jeekel research award when he pitched at the Dragon’s Den at the annual international European Hernia Society congress in Manchester last week. The award is named after the Dutch surgeon and professor Dr. Hans Jeekel at ErasmusMC in Rotterdam. Jeekels research effort are directed towards prevention of abdominal wall complications and the effect of music on different aspects of surgical performance and patient recovery.

Ten finalist pitched, and Gabriel was one of the selected researchers. The Dragon’s Den is a new session at European Hernia Society annual meeting aiming to draw attention to the importance of supporting hernia researchers.

“I pitched to get funding and support for a European multi-center clinical trial assessing short and long term effect of the Suturion device for swift and standardized fascial closure. The award is a recognition that the research is vital and important and funding will be used for assembling a study group that will elaborate on the study design” says Gabriel Börner.
